We are delighted to have you with us. In the following sections, you should find the answers to most of the questions we get asked about when guests stay with us. If you, however, have an as yet unanswered question, please do feel free to reach out to us.
The cottage is located in Stoven Wood, Brampton which is 5 miles from Beccles on the A145 and about 6 miles from Southwold. After you turn left at the cross-roads (coming from Beccles on the A145) the wood entrance is immediately after the small primary school about 400m from the cross-roads. The cottage is 400m down that track….do not despair ! Post code NR348DW will not take you all the way! Address is Gamekeeper’s Cottage,
Southwold Road, Brampton, Suffolk. NR34 8DW.
If you come from London direction on the A12, turn left onto the A145 after the causeway at Blythburgh. Turn right at Brampton cross roads which is about ½ mile after a very sharp right-hand bend uphill by Brampton church.
Zealous Noddy Men are rife with speed cameras monitoring some very strict speed limits in this area so watch out ! (eg. between the cottage and Beccles and Halesworth to Bungay especially…and parts of the A12).
Check your emails for details on where the keys are located.
Because customers could leave the heating set to unknown values, we have now made the control panel generally inaccessible but you can have as much heating as you need as follows:
It is set to come on for some hours in the morning until approx. 0930 and then again at approx. 1630 until 2230. When it is off you have access to the ‘advance’ panel on the controller and it will then be on until the next set ‘off’. Similarly if you want it off when it is on then press the advance panel. When the heating is on, the thermostat next to the controller should be set to 20-22C. In the unlikely event of needing the heating on all night then you must press the advance after the set time has passed ‘off’. Thermostatic valves are on most radiators.
Clean bed linen is supplied with starter toilet rolls and soap and heating and electricity are included in the price. There are extra duvets in the airing cupboard in the twin bedroom.
Don’t forget your own towels and drying cloths etc.
BEDS: Please leave used beds UNMADE
There are three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one single. A high chair is available, and a cot with a mattress is available by request in advance. You will need your own cot bedding.
There are no extras except logs/kindling/coal/firelighters for you to buy at local petrol stations if you want to use the open fires.
Guests are not expected to clean the cottage but if you could leave it tidy with all food removed and rubbish put in the relevant wheely bins at the road it would be much appreciated.
Please do not leave rubbish in the shed.
Best swimming pool if you want one is just outside Bungay on the Halesworth road.
Please decant your rubbish into the wheelie bins at the gate. Recycle items collected in your bag in the house have to have the bag opened and items tipped in the blue wheelie bin loose. General rubbish can be put in its bag direct into the black wheelie bin. A couple of bottles can be put in the black bin but there is a bottle bank at Brampton village hall over the cross roads and on the left.
The wrong contents can result in the bin men not taking the rubbish which can be a big problem as we will not know!
Please remove ALL food when you leave.

The Cottage is five miles from the sea at Southwold and the same distance from river facilities at Beccles and the bird sanctuary at Benacre Ness. It is within easy reach of Minsmere, Aldeburgh, and Dunwich. Freshwater, sea fishing, and gold are available in the area. Norwich and Great Yarmouth are within easy driving (35 and 25 minutes, respectively), and there are many good restaurants and pubs serving food within easy reach of the Cottage.
The cottage was my home as a teenager until about 1960 so we keep it more like a home and like to share that with our guests. Over the years we have worked hard to give you modern facilities which were not there for us! We love roaming in the woodland and visiting Beccles, Southwold , Halesworth and Minsmere. Contact us at any time 24/24 for advice and information.
If you have any issues during your stay or can’t find what you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
